My first short film: ‘Beer and Nuts’

Start With Your Pen

This is my first attempt at a short film. I wanted to have a go at directing before I left university as it often is the best time to try your hand at new skills! I know it might not be to everyone’s tastes and there is room for improvement, but that’s what a first attempt is. Enjoy!

Fish Pie for Pi day!

I love the excuse, cook a pie for pi day. A cheap play on words and its more motivation in the kitchen! My pie was a fish one (Sorry for the title being so misleading), and it was good.

I swear Tescos (English supermarket) wants you to make fish pie, they have special salmon, cod and haddock packages and there’s even a recipe on the back of a parsley sauce packet (yes i cheated on that front..)

I took a cheesy picture on my laptop but photobooth was a right pain in the arse and i couldn’t work out how to turn flash off, as a result here’s the finished glaring product (that is a love heart in the middle not an upside down pair of testicles)

i'm sorry my shy pie isn't very photogenic..

The recipe was fairly straight forward, and I’m sure there are loads of great ones out there, but the one i went for was:

Ingredients:

Fish (of your choice)

Milk – 300ml (I know, a measurement!)

Parsley powdered sauce (from any supermarket)

Potatoes

Leeks

Mushrooms

Parmesan/ Cheddar

Any other veg you want!

Method:

1. Heat up a little milk in a pan and add the fish to it.

2. When the fish looks cooked then take it out of the milk, add the rest of the milk and the parsley powered sauce to the heated milk and turn down the heat a little.

3. In the mean time, fry you veg and boil your potatoes.

4.Once the veg and sauce is cooked, wack the fish, the sauce and the veg all in a cooking pot.

5. Once the potatoes are boiled drain them and add some butter and mash!

6. Cover the potatoes on top of the fish and veg.

7. Grate some cheddar/ parmesan/ cheese fo your choice on top.

8. Put in the oven for 20-25 minutes.

Get involved with your knife and fork, it’s ready!

Learn Your Languages: Sieze the Day!

Its something we all put off to the next year or the next year, but the truth is most of us never get round to it.

I started my Spanish course last September and haven’t looked back, as far as finding the time it is quite easy for me as I’m doing it as an extra module at my university (I know very impressive)! My reasons for learning it was because I have been to Spain, I have been to South America and, whilst I could start to understand them I never could get the hang of a conversation!

My other motivation was, of course, that I now have a Spanish girlfriend and as this is as good a purpose as any I embarked on my cultural journey. So far we have done a lot of tenses and I now understand about half of what people are talking about. But this is not the point of why I am writing.

I am writing to inspire others to do the same, admittedly I had a ‘chica’ to inspire me in the beginning, but a busy schedule should not stop anyone, there is always time. If you have time for a blog you have time for your new language! Whether it be Spanish or Japanese, if you can speak you can do it, and even if you can’t speak one language I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to learn as well (although I wouldn’t be sure how you would be reading this blog..)!

Happy Learning y buenos suerte!

The Artist

The Artist Poster

I know I’m a bit late on this fron but I saw The Artist last night. Maybe it’s just me but i love clever intricacies of plot, especially when it is in view of a bigger picture as it is in the artist: the transition from silent movies to the talkies. Jean Dujardin played George Valentin, the crowd-warmer and his emotions portrayed entirely through his actions are still incrediblymoving.

If you are a fan of clever movies, i hope you’re not too put off by the fact the only voices that can be heard come at the very end. It is worth your time, and deserved every little golden man at the Oscars!

My Friends’ Band

The Small Personal Victories, not a bad name kinda catchy i think. I’ve always liked the idea of knowing people who are in bands just in case you can say you knew them one day.. They played for the first time in front of a live crowd and produced a pretty good sound, as for everyone else hearing them you can do so on this link, the recording isn’t amazing but they put in a good sound (they also have a cheeky interview).. tell me what you think and I can pass the compliments on (making assumptions on the compliments part)!
